Women’s Giving Circle Awards $12,000 to Uplift Local Initiatives
The Women's Giving Circle, a philanthropic group of local women in Washington County, awarded $12,000 to three deserving organizations at the recent meeting hosted by long-term member Dee Wetz.
The meeting highlighted the group's ongoing commitment to supporting initiatives that positively impact children and the community. Each organization presented their mission, demonstrating how the awarded funds will directly enhance the lives of local residents.
The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities has been awarded a generous $5,000 grant, the largest in this funding cycle. This crucial support will go toward purchasing specialized sensory therapy items designed for children with sensory processing challenges. These tools play a vital role in helping children regulate their emotions, engage more fully in therapy, and navigate daily life with greater ease. By enhancing their ability to manage sensory input, these items offer essential support for their overall development and well-being.
Marietta Memorial Health System received a $4,000 grant to support the development of their new pediatric hospital in partnership with Akron Children's Hospital. These funds will help establish a Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), bringing advanced care for premature babies directly to the region. This vital addition will allow families to stay close to home during critical moments, ensuring exceptional medical care and the comfort of being together. The hospital's goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate support for both mothers and newborns.
The Warren Softball League received a $3,000 grant to help ensure the program's long-term sustainability. These funds will cover essential expenses such as uniforms, umpires, and equipment, allowing the league to continue offering valuable opportunities for local youth to participate in organized sports. Beyond the game, the league plays a significant role in fostering important life skills, including teamwork, leadership, and community involvement, helping shape the next generation on and off the field.
Dee Wetz, who has been involved with the Women's Giving Circle since its inception, hosted the event in her family's cabin as a way to show her appreciation for the group's efforts. "The amount of amazing things this group has done for women and children in our community is so special," said Wetz. "I've seen firsthand how we've grown in numbers and impact, and I couldn't be more proud to be part of such a dedicated group of women. Our work is far from over, but seeing how far we've come is inspiring."
Heather Allender, President and CEO of Marietta Community Foundation, praised the Women's Giving Circle for their unwavering dedication and the powerful impact they have made in Washington County. "The women in this group are truly remarkable. Their passion, commitment, and generosity continue to inspire me every day," Allender said. "What's amazing is that these ladies come together not just to give but to understand the needs of the community and make sure their efforts create real, lasting change. It's an honor to witness their compassion and leadership."
The Women's Giving Circle of Washington County, a companion group of Marietta Community Foundation, aims to educate, inspire, and increase local women's participation in philanthropy. Joining the Women's Giving Circle connects members with like-minded women, introduces them to local charitable organizations that support empowering women and youth, and allows them to make a meaningful impact through informed, focused grantmaking. Since its inception in 2016, the group has donated over $95,000 to local nonprofits benefiting women and children.
