Story Time: The Holmes Family
Many people choose to look the other way when a problem arises, but when Ron and Louise Holmes see an issue, they will probably create a fund to address it.
Several years ago, as the couple began preparing for tax season, it was suggested to them that they partner with Marietta Community Foundation for the available tax advantages.
Since then, the Holmes family has helped thousands of individuals, both directly and indirectly, through their various funds.
Several funds were born out of immediate needs, like the Fort Frye High School Auditorium Fund, which helped install air conditioning in the school’s auditorium, or the Holmes Family Community Fund that assists veterans and many other community members with different needs.
“There is a great deal of need, when you look around Marietta and the Washington County area,” said Ron. “Therein lies the most important service of the Foundation... They are familiar with the individuals and entities that request these funds, and are in a position to properly evaluate them and produce a list of deserving recipients to choose from.”
Others came from personal experiences, such as the Louise Holmes Cancer Fund. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2003, Louise established this fund which lends support to low-income cancer patients. Although she had another bought of chemo when the cancer returned in 2017, that has not stopped her from continuing her mission to benefit the community, and the Foundation has been with her every step of the way!
“It is comforting to know that an honest, professionally-run organization is looking out for not only me, but the entire community,” said Ron.
Whether it is providing support for an organization or helping local students achieve their educational goals, Ron and Louise never steer away from a problem.. instead, they help provide a solution!
