Washington County, OH – Last week, a partnership was announced between Marietta Community Foundation (MCF) and Sisters Health Foundation (SHF) to help meet the needs of nonprofits working on the frontlines amid the COVID-19 crisis.

“It is vital that organizations like ours and Sisters Health Foundation work together and pave a way for the future,” said Heather Allender, President & CEO of MCF. “By proactively responding to needs, we are making life a little easier for our county!”

In the short time since the COVID-19 Community Response Fund has been active, it has already been put to good use. Due to the recent state and federal regulations placed on senior centers across the United States, Washington-Morgan Community Action has increased their meal delivery service to the elderly by taking on clients from O’Neill Senior Center.

Due to the influx of new clients, $10,000 has been granted to Community Action to help offset food and transportation costs associated with their delivery service through the end of April.

Washington-Morgan Community Action’s Director of Senior Community Services, Carrie McNamee, said, “We are serving 300 – 375 meals everyday and these funds will cover the cost of the additional clients we picked up from O’Neill Senior Center as well as additional clients from our waiting list.”

Although O’Neill Senior Center is still able to provide certain services to Washington County, the organization is still relying on Community Action to deliver meals to their client’s homes.

“Community Action has always been a strong partner of the O’Neill Center, and that partnership has never meant more than it does now,” said Connie Huntsman, Executive Director at O’Neill Senior Center. “We see each person's individual need and look for opportunities to meet their unique circumstance. That's what a nonprofit does...we touch each life in a way that makes a difference to them, personally.”
