Ingredients To Our Success: Greater Marietta Community Food Pantry

Recently, Marietta Community Foundation published several stories of local families and organizations in the Foundation’s 2020 Annual Report, including this one. Each of these comes from different backgrounds and perspectives, but they all serve as a crucial ingredient to our community.

For many members of our community, livelihood can be found nestled among a span of commercial properties.

What started as three young mothers in a Bible study group collecting canned goods following a devastating flood has grown into a 42-year-long-and-counting mission to serve our neighbors in need.

Each year, the Greater Marietta Community Food Pantry serves nearly 3,000 families suffering from food insecurity with dignity and compassion — and they don’t intend to slow down.

Two years ago, the pantry moved to a new location that more than doubled their square footage. This allowed them to make great strides, but now they have developed a plan to further their mission.

“One of the possibilities that we’re working on is acquiring a van that would serve as a mobile pantry for the homeless,” said Sherry Hill, Director.

The pantry receives donations and funding from many partners, including Marietta Community Foundation.

“The Foundation is one of our largest consistent funders,” said Hill. “Marietta Community Foundation is a vital part of our operations.”

The Foundation is a resource for all Washington County nonprofits and residents facing hardship. Lettuce help you discover what a great pear we can be — visit our office to see what’s cooking.
