Ingredients To Our Success: Daily Bread Kitchen

Daily Bread_018_web.jpg

Recently, Marietta Community Foundation published several stories of local families and organizations in the Foundation’s 2020 Annual Report, including this one. Each of these comes from different backgrounds and perspectives, but they all serve as a crucial ingredient to our community.

Since January 2011, every Wednesday morning a team of faithful volunteers take over the kitchen at the Knights of Columbus Hall on the west side of Marietta.

Their mission is simple — feed hungry people in Washington County.

Daily Bread Kitchen provides nutritious meals to approximately 200 people each week. These meals are free of charge, and can be claimed by anyone in the community with no questions asked.

The organization is a ministry of The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, and is operated by six teams of volunteers who take turns serving each six weeks.

Carol Henshaw has been involved since the first meal served. “It’s just a good time; it’s a joyful time. I feel like I’m contributing to a need in our community.”

Just like Marietta Community Foundation, Daily Bread Kitchen is able to harness the good-will of a few and turn it into something great for the entire community.
