Mike’s journey in Marietta began with a deep-rooted connection to the community where he was raised. After graduating from Marietta College, he went on to earn his law degree from the University of Toledo. Returning home, Mike built an esteemed legal career at Buell & Sipe Co. LPA, specializing in domestic relations, estate planning, real estate, and oil and gas law. His legal expertise became a trusted resource for local families navigating important life decisions.

Even in retirement, Mike’s bond with Marietta remains unbroken. Invited by Eric Erb to serve on Marietta Community Foundation’s board, Mike saw this as a chance to give back to the community that had shaped him. Now in his second term with six years of service, his work with the Foundation reflects a strong belief in the power of collective giving. “The Foundation allows us to strengthen our community in lasting ways,” he shared. “It’s about ensuring future generations have the same—or better—opportunities than we did.”

Mike’s commitment extends beyond the Foundation. A member of the Marietta Noon Lions Club for 45 years, he lives out their mission of service, dedicating himself to projects that support those in need. His involvement with Washington County Harvest of Hope and Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley further demonstrates his commitment to addressing hunger and housing insecurity in the region. “I have always believed if you have the ability to help, you should,” Mike explained. “It’s about improving the lives of those around us.”

Mike’s wife, Rosanne, shares his dedication to the community. Together, they’ve championed the MOV’n Dragons in Marietta, a dragon boat program promoting cancer awareness—a cause especially close to the Buell family. In memory of Mike’s sister, they support the Felicia M. Buell Thriver Program, which uplifts cancer survivors throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley. The dragon boat has come to symbolize resilience and hope, becoming a beloved symbol in the community.

Rosanne’s philanthropic spirit is equally evident in her everyday actions. She and her exercise group, a close-knit circle of friends, have quietly raised thousands of dollars for nonprofits in Washington County. Their approach to giving is thoughtful and collective, pooling their resources and deciding together where to direct their support. “It’s inspiring to see the impact they’ve made by coming together,” said Mike. This approach allows them to make a meaningful difference across a range of causes, helping those who need it most.

The Buell’s’ charitable work is further anchored by the funds they manage through Marietta Community Foundation. The Arthur and Betty Buell Charitable Fund, named after Mike’s parents, supports causes aligned with the family’s values. Through the Buell Family Donor-Advised Fund, they remain active participants in their philanthropic giving. The Felicia Buell Year Abroad Scholarship Fund, meanwhile, opens doors for students pursuing the arts, providing them with life-changing opportunities.

For Mike and Rosanne, philanthropy is defined by careful consideration and a deep awareness of their community’s needs. Whether through their work with local nonprofits, their advocacy for cancer research, or their thoughtfully directed giving through Foundation funds, the Buell’s have created a legacy of quiet generosity and service.
