National Community Foundation Week Celebrations Expanded

Washington County, OH — November 12-18 marks the 32nd Annual National Community Foundation Week, but Marietta Community Foundation is celebrating all month long.

This celebration was instituted by former President of the United States, George H.W. Bush, to celebrate the work community foundations accomplish throughout the country.

Marietta Community Foundation, the only foundation that serves all of Washington County, is using this year’s celebration to increase their presence in the community.

The Foundations celebrations include:

  • Announcing Fall Grant Cycle results
    • 30 applications for funding were received
    • Nearly $250,000 was granted — a record amount of funding granted during a single grant cycle
  • Annual Nonprofit Challenge, sponsored by Superior Toyota Hyundai
    • November 1st – November 17th
    • Local nonprofits compete in a toy drive for the Angel Tree Program
      • Community members can help their favorite organization compete by submitting toys on the organization’s behalf
    • Daily updates on the standings will be announced on the Foundation’s social media pages, @mcfohio, from November 12-17
    • Winners will be announced on November 17th @ 6:30 p.m. at the Foundation office and via Facebook Live
      • Top 3 organizations will win $8,000, $6,000, and $4,000 respectively for their organization and (4) $500 surprise auxiliary prizes will be awarded as well
  • Sponsoring November First Friday: Thanks (for) Giving
    • Friday, November 5th @ 5-9 p.m.
    • Monthly event hosted by Marietta Main Street
    • Parents can register their children for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library
    • 20 nonprofits will join by hosting a table at the Armory
  • Annual Awards
    • Tuesday, November 16th
    • The Foundation will announce its 2020 annual awards for Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year (Individual/Family), Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year (Business), and Outstanding Nonprofit of the Year
  • Business After Hours
    • Wednesday, November 17th @ 5-7 p.m.
    • Monthly event by Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce
    • Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy for Angel Tree and will be the first to discover the winners of the Nonprofit Challenge
  • Giving Tuesday
    • Tuesday, November 30th
    • The Foundation will cover PayPal fees for all gifts made on this day, allowing donors’ gifts to keep their integrity

Marietta Community Foundation supports philanthropy and efforts to improve natural, human and civic resources in Washington County through grants and initiatives. Founded in 1974, Marietta Community Foundation has grown to approximately $42.6 million in assets, oversees more than 300 funds and has distributed more than $22 million to charities while meeting rigorous national standards for operational quality, donor service, and accountability in the community foundation sector.
